Position: Child Protection Psycho-social Assistant

Location: Buea, South West Cameroon

Contract type: National Fixed Term contract

Overall purpose of the role:

Implement all Child Protection activities, including identification, collection of data/documentation, and provision of psychosocial support through psychological first aid (psychosocial support), referrals and confidential data storage (both hard and soft/electronic copies). The Child Protection Psychosocial Support Assistant will ensure compliance with the DRC Information Sharing Protocol at all times

Main Responsibilities

Programme planning and implementation
  • Conduct interviews to identify children at risk in the community and make assessments on the relevant psychosocial support needed;
  • Provide Psychosocial Support (PSS) through Psychological First Aid (PFA), referrals, material assistance and follow up to vulnerable children and families (as appropriate) on case-by-case basis to promote mental and physical well-being of children;
  • Refer vulnerable children to external partners based on informed consent from their families/care-giver for appropriate assistance;
  • Where advisable and with consent given, accompany vulnerable children and their families/care-givers to other service providers to ensure provision of timely and appropriate assistance;
  • Conduct timely follow ups on registered child protection cases who have benefited from DRC PSS and/or material assistance or referred to external partners as well as update their case file accordingly;
  • Maintain linkages with Community Based Children Protection Networks to receive and facilitate referrals in timely manner as well as support improvement of Child Protection response in all DRC operational areas;
  • Attend weekly case conference meetings to present child protection cases and ensure agreed actions are implemented in a timely faction;
  • Ensure adherence to DRC Information Sharing Protection and confidentiality of information received on the cases and code of conduct on child protection;
  • Prepare and maintain an up to date database on all child protection cases registered for psychosocial support including referrals to external partners;
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, including weekly Situation Report (SITREP) and monthly Child Situation Reports.
Reporting
  • Keep accurate records of daily activities, beneficiaries involved, and issues identified.
  • Regularly update databases according to DRC procedures.
  • Contribute to the preparation of monthly work plans in accordance with project objectives and outputs.
  • Contribute to the preparation and timely submission of all reports and updates to donors, partners, DRC office and other interested stakeholders where appropriate.
Coordination
  • Maintain relationship between the community / the beneficiaries and the organization and coordinate with relevant stakeholders in the field as appropriate to ensure a smooth implementation of activities.
  • Proactively participate in regular program meetings and provide updates as appropriate.
  • Ensure close coordination and communication with other elements of DRC program to encourage an integrated approach to program delivery.
  • Support with translation and interpretation tasks if and when necessary.
HR
  • Adhere to DRC’s national staff policy guidelines
  • Comply with DRC’s Code of Conduct at all times
  • Support in induction process for new staff where relevant
Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)
Must have at least 2 years working experience in (Social Work or psycho-social support)
Knowledge and expertise in Child Protection desirable

Education: (include certificates, licenses etc.)
Social Work studies or professional training in social work, preferably working with children at risk
Computer literacy (Excel, Word, Office Package)

Knowledge of context: Minimum 10 years working / studying / living in South West or North West Cameroon. Applications that do not demonstrate this will not be considered.
