ROLE PROFILE

Title : Community Health Workers (250 Required)

Location : Limbe, Mutengene, Tiko, Buea and Kumba

Travel required : No (community based)

Effective Date : June 6, 2021

role PURPOSE

To ensure efficiency and effectiveness in implementation of project activities in the assigned communities from Plan international’s program/project stakeholders in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon in close collaboration with the Project Team.

Dimensions of the Role

The Community Health Worker will serve under the supervision of the Project Coordinator. He/she will also work closely with the MER Officer and Field Assistants during his/her work in the field. He/she is primarily responsible for timely and quality implementation and Reporting of project activities.

Accountabilities

Main duties and responsibilities;
  • Sensitize the community on Cholera prevention, mode of transmission, signs and symptoms.
  • Practically demonstrate to community on how to prepare locally made ORS
  • Fully participate in the disinfection process of communities, market places and other public gatherings
  • Identify water sources, latrines which act as risk factors for Cholera transmission
  • Contact, trace and refer Cholera cases from the communities to the district health centres
  • Follow up the referred cases and report to the supervisors
  • Take part in dialogue and advocacy meetings organized with groups in the community.
  • Work closely with the district medical officer(s)
  • Carryout community engagement activities
  • Organize and facilitate community outreach/sensitization sessions
  • Manage community-based feedback and complain mechanisms.
  • Mobilize communities, support in packaging and distribution of cholera kits.
  • Timely submission of daily, weekly and monthly reports to the Project Coordinator/MER Officer.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Success metrics:
  • Number of cases of Cholera Identified, referred and closed.
  • Number of sensitization and awareness raising sessions organized
  • Quality of community mobilization especially prior to distribution of cholera kits
  • Promptitude in submitting daily, weekly and monthly reports with clean data records
  • Adhere to Plan International’s principles on safeguarding and young people during data collection

  • Complexity of problems handled at the level of the community & the degree of investigation, analysis, & creative thinking required to solve them.
  • Ensure SOPs are respected
  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Essential

  • Gained through education, training, & experience
Qualification and Experience
  • At least GCE O/ Level or its equivalent
  • Should be between 18 and 35years old
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of community engagement
  • Minimum of 6 months’ work experience as a Community Health Worker
  • Ability to carryout community sensitization and outreach activities
  • Mastery of the Southwest region/context.
  • Mastery of Report writing
  • Apt and ready to serve the community
  • Must be resident in Limbe, Tiko, Mutengene, Buea or Kumba.
Demonstrated behaviours needed by the post-holder to successfully perform the role:
  • Have basic computer knowledge and skills with mastery standard software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint...);
  • Ability to speak, read and write English as well as pidgin English
  • Good Community Communication skills

Dealing with Problems:

Maintain neutrality to the on-going crisis.

The job requires intense interventions on the field, in areas often at risk. This requires prudence, vigilance and compliance with security instructions on the part of the animator.
Excellent and creative leadership skills in implementing the activities, in accordance with the standards, principles and with possible resistance from colleagues as is often the case in emergency response work
S/he should work with tight deadlines and accept travels/stays in areas often austere.
