How to apply for the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) MEXT Scholarships 2020

The Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) MEXT Scholarship is available in three categories:
  • Research students
  • Undergraduate students
  • College of Technology students

Eligible Field of Study:

Those who wish to study through the Japanese Government Scholarships as an undergraduate student must choose a field of major from (1) or (2) below. Applicants may enter a first, second, and third choice.

(1) Social Sciences and Humanities: Social Sciences and Humanities-A: Laws, Politics, Pedagogy, Sociology, Literature, History, Japanese language, and others. Social Sciences and Humanities-B: Economics and Business Administration.

(2) Natural Sciences: Natural Sciences-A: Science (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), Electrical and Electronic Studies (Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering), Mechanical Studies (Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture), Civil Engineering and Architecture (Civil Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Engineering), Chemical Studies (Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Textile Engineering), and other fields (Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Biotechnology). 
Natural Sciences-B: Agricultural studies (Agriculture, Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Forestry, Food Science, Fisheries), Hygienic studies (Pharmacy, Hygienics, Nursing), and Science (Biology). 
Natural Sciences-C: Medicine, and Dentistry.

Eligibility Criteria

  • For Undergraduates, only for students with Natural Sciences, A' Level leavers with A in Mathmatics, and be born between April 2, 1994 and April 2, 2002
  • For College of Technology students, A' Level leavers, with a minimum of B in Mathematics and at least two principal passes, and be born between April 2, 1994 and April 2, 2002
  • For students in the research cycle, they must have been born on or after April 2, 1984.  University Graduates with 1st class or Upper 2nd Class Honours Degree or Masters Degree.

How to apply:

Registration deadline: June 6, 2018 at the latest at 4 pm

Cameroonian candidates will have to send their applications to the following address: 
Cultural Section, Embassy of Japan in Cameroon 1513, Rue 1828, Bastos-Ekoudou, BP 6868, Yaoundé

Applicants from other countries will have to submit their applications to the Japanese diplomatic representation of their countries

NB: Only short-listed candidates will be contacted and will communicate the details of the written exam by June 20, 2018.

  1. I thank the Japanese government for the effort they have made to help young Cameroonians to study. I wish to ask if there is any late entry registration for those who got the information late.
